We celebrated our 40th anniversary dinner on Saturday October 13th at Wiltse’s in Oscoda. There was a special celebration and and award presentation for Peggy Ridgway’s contribution over many years to the success of our chapter.

TAWAS BIRDFEST RESULTS

MANY, many thanks to all our 260 registered birders. We had perfect weather for our visitors from England, Ireland, the far West US states and Canada. We have tallied 167 species and still checking a few more data sheets.

2012 GUEST SPEAKERS :

Thursday, Jon Dunn’s topic “Identifying Warblers at Tawas Point, Michigan, and Beyond ” was very extensive and very educational.

Friday, Michigan author, Bill Rapai, presentation on his book : Kirtland’s Warbler: The Story of a Bird’s Fight Against Extinction and the People Who Saved It ” really helped to put the pieces together on the KW history.

Saturday, Harry Hussey & Caleb Putnam presentation of ”Across the Pond: European and American perspectives on trans-Atlantic vagrancy and long-distance migration” was a rare insite on the proper names of common/uncommon birds between our two countries.
