One of these beauties was reported at Tawas State Park the other day. A bit out of her normal migration range (in the yellow). The birder who identified the Buff-breasted Sandpiper, described her as "exhausted." If you are visiting a beach today or during the fall migration period, please give shore birds a wide berth. Please keep your dogs on a leash and do please attempt to not disturb them. They are arriving tired and hungry and are looking for rest and food. Photo credit to Bill R.

Swift Night Out was a success. Thank you to all who attended. Thank you Larry V. for an informative talk on Chimney Swifts. Thank you Bookish, you are an amazing host. The bird trivia battle between The Loonies and the RedHeads was well fought (or played) with the Redheads gaining possession of the Wise Owl trophy. And finally so grateful that the stars of the evening, the Chimney Swifts (as well as a Night hawk) put on a great show. Also kudos to Forward Gas for letting us hang out in their parking lot.

BIRD MIGRATION! The first bird surge of the season has brought much higher than expected bird activity Monday night. An estimated 232,000,000 birds are on the move, tracked by Doppler Radar moving South/Soutwest at 18 mph around an altitude of 2,100 feet. This data is according to BirdCast shows the highest concentration from the Great Lakes heading south across the Mississippi River Valley!
